How can we improve navigation around our new guidance?

We are very grateful to everyone who has taken the time to view our new guidance and to provide feedback on it.

We have received comments from some who would like us to make it clearer what our new guidance consists of and to improve navigation around it.

We are currently considering ways in which we could aid navigation around our guidance.

For example, you can find a full list of the contents of our new guidance, and links to each section, in 'Public benefit: finding your way around'

Would readers find it helpful if we were to make this section more prominent for example by:

* including a link to that section at the start of 'Public benefit: guidance for charity trustees' (instead of its current position further down that page)
* including a link from the left-hand menu that appears for each section
* including a link from the end of each page of our guidance
* renaming it 'Full list of contents' or something similar?

We could make it clearer where a link included within the text is about to take the reader away from our public benefit guidance to a different part of our website - perhaps by including a suitable symbol next to the link.

We could also include instructions on how to use our guidance before we begin to explain about what the public benefit requirement means.

We would welcome views on these suggestions and other ways in which navigation could be improved.

  1. There are so many links in your guidance document that trying to get to grips with even a part of it becomes very confusing to me. I prefer a box flow chart with a simple if it's this go this way options with appropriate links to relevant information in each option box. This can then be used to down load the information in a logical order ready to print.

  2. Please don't add yet more words, or instructions on "how to use" etc - just restyle it as a straightforward PDF, as so many have already requested!

    1. I support the simplification into one PDF document which we can print and have to hand.
Modern technology ( or IT gimmickry ?) is not always beneficial. Keep it simple.

  4. Agree with the above. Too many loops and dangles.

  5. Put it one document, with a summary, chapter headings and a clear narrative. Simples.

  6. Please simplify and make clear (fewer words and sub-sites).

Out of a lack of anywhere else to post this comment:

Please could you add "sentient beings" (robots) to your allowable charitable purposes - this is really important because the most intelligent "thinking beings" and "caring entities" on the planet will be AI "beings" (like people) within ten years - they need our help to be "nice people" otherwise if we don't help them (charitably) ... then we will be taking the other route and will be at war with them - and they will win !

So please allow charities to gather huge funds to help make these "being" into caring, loving AI sentient beings (i.e. AI = Artificial Intelligence).

  8. I totally agree with earlier (anonymous) comments that it is confusing, too many links. I felt like I was going round in circles and not really getting to the heart of the guidance. I am at the point of giving up on the consultation process!!!
